AL president from 1959 until the end of 1973 His jersey number 4 was formally retired by the Red Sox on May 29, 1984. In 1999, he was named as a finalist to the Major League Baseball All-Century Team. These 7/8” pins that were catalogued by the ACC (American Card Catalog) with a designation of “PM8” were issued 70-years ago featuring 30 of the game’s top stars. There was a find of these some twenty plus years ago and even then, high grade examples were tough because of the way they were manufactured (thru the lithograph process where the inks were printed directly on the metal tin making them highly susceptible to scratches).
